What it Looks Like
My General Schedule
I wake up at 4:45am.  I clean the Justice Prayer Room (JPR) from 6am-7:30am.  Then I shower, change, and ride my bike to IHOP's main Prayer Room, where have "Prayer Room hours" from 8am-noon.  I have a two hour lunch break, and then I do 2 more Prayer Room hours back at the JPR from 2pm-4pm, sometimes running the sound board.  Then, I have an hour for dinner.  I change and then I clean at the JPR again, from 5pm-9pm.  Then I come home, shower, and crash.  Fridays I have no Prayer Room hours, but still cleaning at morning and night (so that's the day I clean and do laundry and whatnot).  Weekends I do my best to catch my breath and catch up with friends.

"Prayer Room Hours?"
24 hours a week, my job is simply to pray and engage with what is going on in the room.  These are called my "Prayer Room Hours."

"Service Hours?"
I also spend about 30 hours a week in practical service around the missions base.  Most of this time is spent cleaning IHOP's "Birchwood Center" where the Justice Prayer Room is, and also includes the library, some offices, and a multi-purpose room.

This is one of the rare positions at IHOP that offers a "work scholarship."  This is such a blessing from the Lord.  Without a car, it is a blessing to have found a paid position so close to home.

I purchased an iPod shuffle earlier this year, and my plan is to invest in an MP3 set of the English Standard Version, and to listen to the Word (and to teachings) as I clean.  Can you believe that I will have 20 hours a week to listen to and meditate on the Bible?

My commitment to this job is through December 31.  I wonder how many times I could listen to the whole Bible in that time...

  • Sound Tech:  I also still occasionally run the sound board at the JPR.

It is definitely the most complicated "instrument" I've ever "played."  To be honest, it was very intimidating when I was first learning, but now I'm really beginning to enjoy myself.  Doing it 12 hours a week is certainly aiding the learning curve!  I've improved a lot over the last 9 months.

We are switching to a digital board soon, though, so please pray that I will be able to learn this quickly as well!  *bites nails nervously*
